After the disappointment of losing the first leg of our Europa League tie against Athletco Bilbao, it`s back to the Premier League this Sunday when we welcome a much improved West Bromwich Albion side. Can United get back to wining ways and stay hot on the heels of our noisy-neighbours?
Our star striker Wayne Rooney, already has an impressive 24 goals to his name this season and ahead of the clash with West Brom, Wayne has spoken about getting back to winning ways after the shock loss on Thursday evening, remarking,
"We have to pick ourselves sup form this because we`re in a very tight title race."
"It`s nip and tuck and we have another important game against West Brom."
"We`ve lost at home, but it`s good for us as players have another match here so soon to try and put that right."
"Over the last six weeks we`ve got some great results in the league."
"You can sense the excitement in the city amongst the players and the fans it is great."
"These are the times you want to be playing football, to be in a title race like this and hopefully we can come out on top."
We sure do.
Coping without the usual long term absentees in Darren Fletcher and Nemanja Vidic, whilst also coping without the mid-term absentees in Michael Owen and Anders Lindegaard, Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping that Chris Smalling, who picked up another head wound on Thursday evening will be available for selection.
24 goals and counting! Where would we be without him?
Roy Hodgson has his own injury concerns as he brings his West Brom side to Old Trafford eager to keep a winning run going. Steve Reid is definitely out whilst there are doubts about Jerome Thomas and Billy Jones. But Roy is able to call upon, again, the services of Chris Brunt who has recovered form a foot injury that kept him out for two months.
A tricky forward who, on his day, can trouble the best.
It`s a long time since West Brom defeated Manchester United in the top flight League, the last occasion being back in March 1984, some fifteen games ago. In eleven Premier League meetings United have won nine and drawn two.
Our visitors are on a good run of form having lost only one of the last six.
There will be no repeat of last year, when West Brom stole a point. After the setback on Thursday evening, Sir Alex will be looking to get a maximum return form this game and I reckon that will be the case with United winning 3-0.
It`s a trip to Spain, on Thursday, for the Europa League second leg against Athletico Bilbao where we will be looking to turn around a first leg deficit
