United head off to Bloomfield Road, this Tuesday evening, keen to harvest another three points as they seek to reclaim the Premier League title. Once a thriving seaside resort, United will be looking to do the business in a cool calculated manner and will forsake any of the joviality usually associated with a visit the Golden Mile. But, in Ian Holloway, they`ll be sure to put on a show especially against one of the biggest names in the Premier League.
United enter this fixture still unbeaten and on the back of an emphatic victory over Birmingham City, on Saturday. Top of the table and looking to put further distance between us and the chasing pack, Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to press on and achieve another title success, remarking about the situation,
"My aim is always to try to go into the second half of the season in the leading group."
"If you can do that, then you have a good chance of kicking on to win the championship. Well, we have bettered my target by going top already and I believe we`ve enough in our locker in terms of quality and strength to go all the way."
Looking at the opposition around us, I still believe the title is ours to lose.
Ian Holloway takes his squad into this fixture without the injured Basham, Clarke, Gilks and Martin whilst Carney is on international duty in the Asian Cup.
Rtaed as doubtful are Campbell, Crainey and Kingson with the latter having received a hefty kick to the head from Bolo Zenden when Blackpool entertained Sunderland at the weekend.
His future may be the subject of a lot of speculation but we expect, unless a deal has been struck with Liverpool, the former Glasgow Rangers man to start. Adam is at the heart of everything Blackpool construct as they continue to play the kind of attacking, open football Ian Holloway preaches. Definitely one to watch!
Sir Alex Ferguson will once again be without the injured duo of Owen Hargreaves and Antonio Valencia whilst Rio Ferdinand, who missed the 5-0 thrashing of Birmingham City, and Michael Carrick will require fitness tests on Tuesday morning.
With the games coming thick and fast, don`t be surprised if Sir Alex Ferguson rotates his squad for this fixture.
Surely the Bulgarian won`t be rested after notching his third hat-trick of the season and also whilst being in hot scoring form, or will he? Stranger things have happened.
Blackpool and Manchester United rarely meet, the last fixture being back in 1974/1975 when both sides were in the old division two.
During that season United racked up two convincing victories, winning 4-0 at home and 3-0 away.
The last top flight clash between the sides was way back in 1970/1971 when both games finished 1-1.
United go into the fixture on a 22 game unbeaten start to the season whereas Blackpool have lost four of their last five Premier League games.
The men officiating this fixture are Peter Walton (referee, Andy Newbold and Adam Watts (assistants) and Mark Clattenburg (fourth official).
United will win this one, of that I`ve no doubt but Blackpool could push us all the way with United winning by the odd goal in three.
It`s a return to FA Cup action next weekend when we visit the south-coast to play League one side, Southampton, in the 4th round.
