'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fergie Delighted By Progress

Sir Alex was happy with United's 2-0 win at Villa Park despite the below par performance.

The Reds left it late, with the usual Rooney-Ronaldo duo sealing the victory in the third round of the FA Cup. However, the manner of the victory does not matter at this stage, according to Fergie.

'It was a great result for us. We knew this was going to be a tricky round,' he told Sky Sports.

'Aston Villa have been in fantastic form. It was a really tight cup tie, but we've managed to squeeze through.

'The name of the game is to stay in the Cup. I've had taken a replay gladly because I couldn't see a goal coming.

'We've squeezed through by the tightest of margins.'
