Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Aston Villa should not score early against United on Saturday.
The two teams lock horns on Saturday for the umpteenth time in the FA Cup third round. History, form, players, everything point to a United win but Villa attacker Agbonlahor knows the way to win: keep United at bay and score in the second half only.
'Last time we scored an early goal and had them on the back foot but, against those quality teams especially, it is not good to score the first goal,' he said...
'We got them angry and they came back and thumped us.
'I think we've got to go out and show what we did against Tottenham on New Year's Day and hopefully we can get at least a replay off them.
'We've shown this season that we can hurt teams and, if we go out and play our game, we can hurt anyone. We've got to try and stop them from scoring but we are capable of scoring in any game.'
It's quite interesting. I would argue that scoring early puts the pressure on the bigger team as they are expected to win comfortably. It should liberate their opponents who would believe they can indeed win. But I'm not sure, as I have never been a professional footballer.
One thing is clear. An early United goal could be disastrous for Villa who were by far our favourite opponents in the past decade...
