Manucho Joins United!

Mateus Alberto Contreiras Goncalves joins Manchester United after the African Cup of Nations.

The 24-year-old striker was top scorer in the mighty Angolan league for the last two seasons and will be part of his country's squad at the African Cup of Nations.

"We have had Manucho here for a 3-week trial and have been impressed enough to offer him a 3-year contract.

'He is a tall, agile, quick forward and through contacts that Carlos has was brought to our attention around six months ago,"
Fergie explained.

It's a bit of a shock. I knew he was on trial but I was not aware that he is 24. I mean, a 17-year-old is all good, he can be the man for the future and can expect a bit of a time on loan or in the reserves. But at 24? I can only assume that he has been bought for the first team as his merchandising value is certainly very low.

Tall, agile forwards are of course welcome but from Angola? Forget Premiership experience, this guy has never even played in Europe... It will be interesting to see him, assuming of course that his work permit application will not be turned down.

Yeeeeeeeees! Wait, who?
Tosswink
Certainly he was not bought for this season. I think that he will play in the Reserves or will be loaned out for some experience of English football. Picking up this valuable experience, he could be an asset next season.

He certainly looks like a good prospect, even if he hasnt played in Europe, still has played football! =)
