The Worst Possible Draw: Lyon

The Worst Possible Draw: Lyon

United were drawn in a very tough-looking group back in September but made light work of AS Roma, Sporting and Dynamo Kiev. More of the same is required as we have been drawn Olympique Lyonnais in the second round.

The games will be played on February 19/20 and March 4/5. The six-times French champions are a tough nut to crack and later you will be able to read a detailed profile of them. For the time being I will say that our only meetings with them came in the group stage of the 2004/05 competition, that time we drew 2-2 in Lyon and won 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Arsenal and Liverpool had much worse draws so we can be reasonably happy - but not as much as Chelsea who are virtually in the quarter-final now.

We must be careful with fouls because Juninho's free-kicks can be devilishly good. However, we have way too much quality. In France, Anderson and Hargreaves will provide enough protection for the back four to keep them out and we'll win 3-1 at Old Trafford. Barca are not exactly brilliant this season yet they confidently overcame Lyon over the two games so we should beat them.

Lyon is hard to beat, but not hard enough. They have ALWAYS under-achieved in Europe, proof of the fact that they've been six time champs also coz the French League is pathetic.

It won't difficult to beat them, but they're a great french club.

Its not really a tough draw, a very poor Rangers team beat them 3-0 in france and Roma beat them 2-0 in france last year, I can see united scoring one or two over there.
