Is Ferdinand The Best In The World?

Is Ferdinand The Best In The World?

Wayne Rooney reckons Rio Ferdinand is the world's best defender at the moment.

Rio excelled in the 1-0 win at Anfield and his performance certainly deserves praise. Yet Rooney took it one step further than simple praise.

'Vida and Rio were brilliant for us," he added.

"I think Rio is probably the best defender in the world at the moment. He's been doing really well for us. The whole defence and the whole team is defending well."

Yeah, I know, the usual self-hype. But it's worth some debate. Do you agree with him? Rio, with his brilliant skills but lapses of concentration, is better than Nesta, Terry, Gallas, Puyol, Cannavaro?

Is the world's best defender, not on abilities, but on current form?

Tests? I was under the impression he had missed only one. And yes, at the moment he is the best as nobody is performing equal to his level.

I presume this is some sort of Christmas prank? Is this the same Ferdinand who scored an amazing o.g against Portsmouth, the same fella who 'forgot' a drugs test and the same Rio who smashes the ball at old ladies in the crowd whenever he has a temper tantrum? He's not even the best centre half at united.Dont know how he gets a game for england.
