Retro Kits In Honour Of Busby Babes

United will mark the 50th anniversary of the Munich tragedy by wearing special shirts against City.

The next derby at Old Trafford will be probably the most memorable of all the United v City games - even if it ends in a drab 0-0.

That day, February 10th, 2008 will be four days after the 50th anniversary of the Munich aircrash so this fixture has been chosen to mark it with playing in specifically designed shirts.

AIG, Nike and the Premier League all gave their permission so United will play in '50s style kits without sponsor names. It is, I think, a fantastic gesture towards those who lost relatives and friends in that dreadful tragedy.

'The Munich air crash was not just about Manchester United,' chief executive David Gill said. 'It devastated the lives of the 23 families of those who died, as well as those who never played again, and united a city in grief.

'Those who are able to remember it say it was Manchester's 'Kennedy moment.' Everyone knows where they were when the terrible news came through.'

United a city... Hopefully, in that February game, rivalries will be forgotten despite being in direct confrontation on the day, to remember that great team and those who travelled with them on that day...

Also, MUTV will be free for anyone on February 6 and it will broadcasts all kinds of programmes about the anniversary, without any advertisements befouling it.
