Chatting With A Rover!

Tomorrow we are likely to face a vicious test against Blackburn so I set out to find out as much as possible about them. Vital Blackburn's Mikey Gamst was immensely helpful in this!

1) What do you make of Blackburn's start to the season so far? Has it gone how you would of expected?

I think everyone expected Rovers to get off to a better start than we have in recent seasons but even the most harderned Rover would say they would not of expected us to have only lost 1 after more than a quarter of the season. The start has been tremendous. On the negative side I would of hoped to of still been in the UEFA cup but you can't have it all your own way.

2) Where this Rovers team could finish at the end of the season?

We have an outside chance of reaching the Champions League spots but more realistically we will battle Pompey (and maybe Man City) for 5th. As I am sure we are all aware the season has many twists and turns but at the moment I would suggest we'll finish 5th or 6th.

3) The UEFA Cup exit must have been a bitter pill to swallow but won't it benefit your league chances in the long run?

Yes it will. It was a very difficult defeat to take as anyone at vital blackburn will tell you but indirectly we have benefited from the week off as the recent win over Spurs showed.... last year we would of lost that game. We have a larger squad (to cope wth European games) than in recent years so the trick this year will be keeping everyone happy due to our early exit.

4) Which Blackburn player(s) should United be wary of? And similarly, who of the Reds' players give you sleepless nights?

As far as the United players goes the players that Rovers will be dreading are Ronaldo and Tevez. Realistically most of United's attacking players are excellent (Rooney, Nani, Giggs etc.) but the ones that will hurt us most are Ronaldo for his pace and trickery and Tevez for his strength and work rate. I expect us to start defensively to frustrate said players.

On the other side of the fence the players that Man U should be wary of are Santa Cruz and Chris Samba. Roque has been magnificent since we signed him, he sets up play for the others, has the touch of a god and is a target man who is essentail for away games and Chris Samba is a menacing threat from set pieces as well as being our player of the season so far.

5) Does it scare you that Blackburn might lose Mark Hughes to a bigger club? Or perhaps would it make you Rovers fans proud?

We would be devestated to start with as he has been our best manager since Dalglish. Eventually he will go and more than likely it will be to United themselves. This will happen in a few years and it will be a sad day when it happens for everyone connected with Blackburn.

But on the flip side he has already made us proud. He has built a fantastic squad on a limited budget and taken us from relegation contenders to serious European potentials in 3 years. Just like our goalkeeper, we wouldnt swap him with anyone. He will make another team very happy one day.... but having said that the longer he stays with us the longer the smile will stay on my face!!!!

6) A prediction for Sunday?

I know I'll get shot down for this but we have potential to get something from the game, it will be tough, it will involve heart in mouths more than once but we can get a draw, the confidence in the team can achieve this, 1-1.

Thank you Mikey, we're all looking forward to the game!
