Vidic Is The New Bergkamp

Nemanja Vidic has admitted he's very scared of flying. A certain ex-Arsenal player springs to my mind...

'I'm starting to get more worried each time I fly,' he said. 'My wife isn't very good on planes and the more travelling I do with her the more she makes me nervous.'

Talking about Bobby Charlton, the big Serbian praised the legendary man's courage.

'He was involved in a terrible air crash yet he still flies. He is a very, very courageous man. I cannot imagine doing that, definitely not.'

So, who's the first name that springs to your mind when you hear a football player is afraid of flying? Well of course it's Arsenal's ex-magician Dennis Bergkamp. Now Vidic can claim he's the next Bergkamp: famous footballer of one of England's top sides who is scared of entering a plane.

But it's even weirder than in the case of Bergkamp. After all, the Dutchman was a player of sublime skill who was regularly in danger of being kicked off the park by brute defenders who could not live with his vision and technique. Somehow it's easier to associate fear with these kind of players.

But a defender? Vida is a no-nonsense, tough, uncompromising defender. Imagine him sweating from fear inside of an aeroplane... I can't, it's just unreal. But I assume that even the most courageous men have their own fears. Still, it's weird.
