Ronaldo Predicts Greatness

Cristiano Ronaldo is confident that Manchester United will win the Premiership and the Champions League.

The reigning champions of England had their Euro dreams shattered in spectacular fashion at the San Siro last season but aim to go one better, according to the Portuguese star who went missing on that night.

'I believe we'll win the Premier League and Champions League this season,' he told The Sun.

'We have the team, we have the players and we believe we can do it. There's a good chance we will.

'All the players feel good, feel sharp, feel quick and they are showing on the pitch their desire to play for Manchester United.

'In the last three or four games we have scored many goals and we are more confident now.'

Why I don't like it? A healthy amount of confidence is... well, healthy but there's no reason to predict mind-boggling successes in October as the fall can be spectacular. Remember Arsenal in 2002? Wenger claimed they are the best team in the planet, they will go unbeaten and Thierry Henry will find the cure for cancer. Well, okay, he did not say this last one but it was quite amusing as a 17-year-old boy banished their plans of unbeaten glory.

They did that two seasons later of course but the notable difference was that the smugness emanating from Highbury was a good deal more bearable that time. No coincidence I think and therefore our players should not go on predicting big things for the team. Leave that for the fans, that's what they are best at.

Ronaldo is a legend for what he done at the world cup. Good on him. Even as an Englishman, it was great to see him do that
