Evra Didn't Doubt Arsenal's Mettle

Press suggest Patrice Evra believes a defeat will show the flaws in Arsenal's machine. He said nothing like that, of course.

I don't really understand why journalists write that Evra doubts Arsenal's mettle. What he actually said is a very simple truth which nobody can deny.

'There is no doubt that Arsenal are a stronger side than they were last season, but I don't think we will know about this team until they lose,' he told the Sun.

'That's the important time when you look to see how a team reacts. It is how you bounce back.

'We know we can do it. We had a difficult start to the season but we have shown great strength and character and are winning now without conceding any goals.'

He stated that Arsenal are stronger than last season which is evident in my opinion. Another thing he stated is that a defeat and the ability to bounce back from it shows the real strength of a team.

Not even the most biased Gunner can deny that this test of character is waiting for them. Evra did not say Wenger's team wouldn't cope: he simply stated it will be important how they react. No doubting, no arrogance, just a simple truth. No need to write spectacular headlines like 'Evra questions Arsenal's mettle'. He didn't do that.

(P.S.: I know that these headlines sell papers but I'm still frustrated by these sort of things.)

I've printed the very same comments on VA, and I can't disagree with them, infact I've been saying all season that it will be pivotal to our whole season how we respond when we finally get beat. The media are just trying to mix it up between the teams.

Maybe we might not lose all ... - ahh I don't wanna jinx it lol

there's a game against us 2 in november.......the press need to create needle between us after pizzagate etc (the the special 1 now gone). Evra, like most arsenal fans now we'll lose sometime, and pointing out a valid.......as long as we don't lose at old trafford, i'm fine with it

Yes its probably the press twisting things as usual but either way it sounds like Evra is scared of Arsenal otherwise he wouldnt have said anything at all. Leave the mindgames to Fergie, hes better at it. Patrice & Carlos should concentrate on playing a good game rather than talking it.
gooner303
gooner303, I would say Evra considers Arsenal our biggest rival now. Scared is not the right word, especially not in the case of Evra, who was our best player at the Emirates last year...

Oh, and you're right, leave the mind games to Fergie and Wenger, they are the masters of it :-)

Well, if Evra didn't, than I will. I think Arsenal will collapse when they lose their early form. Their rise was too quick so their fall will be too spectacular.
midlothian99
i disagree midlothian.. u're in for a surprise.. the team is different.. the belief is different.. we're seeing a different arsenal that doesnt give in.. say what u want to.. think what u want to.. but the fact remains is that they will come out more the stronger in the face of defeat.. which.. ofcourse.. is gonna be difficult as it is..
go4it_adi
Difference is midlothian - Evra's comments are spoken with plenty of footballing knowledge.......yours are spoken in hope.
