Fergie: We Were Lucky

Sir Alex Ferguson admitted Roma played well and could have snatched a point against United on Tuesday.

The 1-0 win is welcome, the performance less so but at least we should comfortably qualify for the second round now. And that is enough for the boss who praised our reserve goalkeeper.

'He (Kuszczak) made a couple of good saves and made a good block in the second half,' he said. 'Roma had a few good chances and maybe we can count ourselves a little lucky.'

'We've got the players. Sometimes you go through these spells but it won't last forever. Some day we're going to hit a few goals. Hopefully that will come soon. All the players are working hard and all showing a lot of experience.

'I'm pleased with the win because Roma are a good team, it was a good game and a good European night. It was a bit tactical at times but a good result for us.'

It's a bit like Hector Cuper's Inter in 2001/02. He said after almost every league game that 'today I'm pleased with the result only'. That's the mantra now at United...

we weren't extraordinarily fortunate, it's just that roma missed some good chances at the end while we could be happy that rooney's shot went in off the post. boring game really, neither team deserved to win
