Totti Offers Peace

The Roma captain apologised to a female Manchester United fan for the problems in Rome last season.

United fans, being pelted by missiles throughout the game, were attacked by Italian police who acted with unexpected brutality. Carly Lyes, the woman in question, had her camera taken away and was hit on the head.

She's one of the four fans who started legal actions against the police for the treatment they received but Roma captain Francesco Totti hopes it does not tarnish their image of the Eternal City.

Carly Lyes was presented with a new camera at Old Trafford which contained a video message from Totti and teammate Damiano Tommasi.

"We would like to apologise for the treatment you received in Rome last season and hope it has not damaged the opinion that you and your fellow supporters have of Rome.

"We would also like to invite you to the Olympic Stadium for the game later this year and treat you as our guest."

The gesture is undoubtedly fine but as Ms. Lyes sadly remarked, the police still does not feel they should apologise for anything.

it's a nice touch, especially to be their guests in Rome for the return fixture!

Even the UEFA warned them at that time so I expect it will be much more peaceful this year. Or I hope so, at least. Nice gesture from Totti.
