Irwin Impressed With Evra

United legend Dennis Irwin is impressed with fellow left-back Patrice Evra.

Irwin's opinion is to counted, after all, he completed a decade at Old Trafford playing at left-back - not bad from a right-footed player! Patrice Evra's popularity is rapidly growing among the fans and Irwin also admitted that his successor is a quality player.

Evra initially struggled at Old Trafford, like another big hit, Nemanja Vidic, but out title-winning campaing saw him emerge as one of our most consistent performers.

"Evra has looked very good this season," he said.

"I must admit I was a bit worried when he first came in I always thought Heinze was a better defensive player, but Evra did look good going forward. I thought that if you could have merged the two of them then you`d have the perfect full-back.

"It was a tough start for Patrice and everyone remembers his debut against City. But last year you could see him getting better and better all the time, and I`m very impressed with his all-round game now."

Merging Heinze and Evra? Evra's heading ability with Heinze's pace and loyalty, eh? No, of course I know what he meant... and he's right, that would be fearsome. But I'm happy with Evra - on basis of the year behind us, he's a better left-back at the moment than Ashley Cole who did not really find his form at Chelsea.

That's right, merlin. He's the most improved player in the league methinks! And I'm happy he did not play for France, Abidal being preferred... an injury to Evra would be quite horrible if you consider his understudies...
