Simpson Signs New Contract

Simpson Signs New Contract

Defender Danny Simpson was rewarded for his fine Sunderland form and good pre-season with a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2010.

He was a success at right-back for Sunderland and Roy Keane made no secret of his desire to keep the 20-year-old player. However, it seems he's very much in the plan of Sir Alex Ferguson.

I consider it a good sign, for he's a right-back and Gary Neville can't go on forever. I'm doubtful about whether he can really step up to that level but his ability suggests that he can at least be a good squad player, in the mould of Darren Fletcher.

He's learnt a lot in Belgium and in the Championship, he's talented so let's wait and see. Good luck Danny!
