Hughes On The Mat?

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes could find himself in hot water with the Football Association after criticising referee Graham Poll.

The FA are certain to look closely at Hughes' comments, with the former United legend unhappy with a number of incidents that took place in the game, suggesting bias on Poll's part.

Hughes: 'We are in a situation now where there are only so many Premier League referees, and possibly they enjoy the celebrity status - that's dangerous.

'Mr Poll thought 61,000 people had come to see him. Referees have to remember fans come to watch two teams play, not the performance of the referee.

'I am particularly disappointed with the penalty decisions. We had a very similar, if not stronger claim for one early in the second half which was not given.

'Okay, it was a great save by Brad Friedel and that did not cost us, but there were a number of other decisions right through the game that led to frustration on our part.

'I feel there needed to be a balance in the amount of decisions we had and that Manchester United had.

'Rio has gone off the pitch and clipped Robbie. Why he has needed to do that I don't know. Obviously, Robbie then went to ask him why he had done that. That then led to everybody making sure nothing else happened, which it didn't.'
