Anderson Impresses On Debut

Manchester United won 2-0 at Doncaster Rovers, thanks to second half strikes from Darron Gibson and Sean Evans, on the day when Anderson made his debut for the club.

The 19-year-old Brazilian, signed from Porto at the end of last season had been included in the starting line-up. He was quite good against a Doncaster side that fought with a dogged determination which was quite remarkable for a friendly.

Campbell and Dong tried to make the most of Anderson's defence-splitting passes but they could not convert any of their chances and the Brazilian had to be substituted at half-time, due to a minor injury.

It did not really affect the team as Darren Fletcher and Darron Gibson confidently pulled the strings from midfield. The latter scored a spectacular goal which seemed to be the only goal of the game until Evans' late effort. The Irish midfielder's display was praised warmly by Sir Alex Ferguson.

'I thought Darron was excellent,' he told MUTV. 'He is potentially one of the best young players at the club. He's got good physical prowess, two great feet, good pace - he's got everything in his locker.

'He just needs experience and that's something he'll hopefully get plenty of this season.'

He was pleased with Anderson's debut, too, expressing his belief that the youngster's injury was not serious.

'It was a good introduction to English football for him because Doncaster were very competitive and showed great commitment and made things difficult for us.'

'He's picked up a little hamstring strain which we'll assess on Saturday. But hopefully it's nothing serious and he'll be okay.'

It was a good match, anderson looked impressiv and kuscack looked solid (apart from the corner in the first half). but, my god, some of our youngsters looked amazing, gibson was fantastic, evans was great, the striker campbell was lightning fast, but it was spainard gerard pique who impressed most. i saw him play for zaragoza a couple of times last season and he looked more than comfortbale. i hope we keep him this season, because i think he can push brown for the RB slot if gary is still injured.
