Our transfer activity is set to become even crazier with Carlos Tevez reportedly joining United.
United could not be accused of wasting their time on the transfer market, having secured Owen Hargreaves, Anderson and Nani as early as the end of May.
However, reports emanating today suggest that we will sign Argentinian Carlos Tevez, too, in a deal worth £20 million. First, I found on the website of the Times and now BBC qoute their own sources to report roughly the same thing about Tevez.
The reports say that United have made clear that they want full ownership of the player's registration. If that is possible, then Tevez will join us though we might face a fight with West Ham who still claim they own his registration and not Media Sport Investments, led by Kia Joorabchian, Tevez's advisor.
It's been suggested that it might be a season-long loan with an option to buy the player. In this version, the initial fee would be £8 million and it could rise to £20 million next summer when the club buys him.
The reports go as far as saying that Carlos Tevez, currently at the Copa America told his Argentina team-mates that he's signing for United and delighted to do so.
Is there any truth in all these reports? Well, even the BBC have reported so I assume that we must have expressed serious interest in Tevez. The reports differ on the date of the completion of the deal: some say it will be done by the weekend, others say it will be officially confirmed next week only.
I'm not at all sure that Tevez will indeed join us - I somehow still find it hard to believe that we'll sign yet another high-profile young player. Splashing the cash the way we do this summer has been unheard of so far in the Glazer era but the aforementioned loan deal would suit them fine.
Of course, don't believe the reports that if we sign him, our spending will go over the £70 million mark. It's not true: Anderson and Nani only POTENTIALLY cost £17 million so we are below £50 million so far in terms of actual spending.
