United have scored one of the most amazing transfer coups of the summer: Nani and Anderson are both set to join the Reds.
Oh my god. I've just arrived home to realise that our beloved United made fools of a lot of other clubs who were all after highly-rated teenagers of Nani and Anderson. The pair are set to sign, with only the formalities, including a medical, are still to be concluded.
Nani, now at Sporting Lisbon, turns 21 in November. He's a pacy winger in the mould of Cristiano Ronaldo - no doubt that he's singled out by Fergie as the successor of Giggs.
The capture of Anderson is the bigger surprise, for me at least. Portuguese Nani'd been linked to us ages ago but it was widely assumed that Porto's 19-year-old Brazilian starlet would be heading for Spain or Italy if he left Mourinho's former team.
The guy's been amazing for Porto since he had joined in 2005. He's already got Champions League experience (Nani as well). He's been named in the Brazil squad for this summer's Copa America so I expect securing a work permit for him would not be too much of a problem.
Anderson is an attacking midfielder who can play just about everywhere where attacking qualities are required. I can't really see him settling into a 4-4-2 system but if Fergie opts for a 4-5-1 or a 4-3-3 (as it seems likely) then he could be a wonderful asset for us.
I'm not sure they'll turn out to be great signings and as I had said earlier, I'm not convinced we need a player like Nani but I can't help being impressed. It's May 30 but United have already signed three major players - Fergie does not want to waste his time, that's clear.
