United Held Talks With Sporting

Reports claim that Sporting winger Nani is set to be United's second summer signing after Gill and Queiroz were photographed in Lisbon

The pair was pictured leaving a hotel with Sporting officials. Neither club wished to comment on the meeting but it is believed that they had held talks over the future of Nani.

The 20-year-old Sporting winger has been linked with a move to United for a long time and reportedly refused to sign a contract extension. He's recently expressed his desire to play in the Premiership.

However, Sporting still wish to hold onto him. Salema Waiter, director of communications at the Portuguese club, told that if United are keen on the player, they have to trigger the release clause in his contract. In that case, Sporting could do nothing at all to prevent Nani leaving.

That's nothing new of course. I guess (and it's only guesswork, nothing else) that Gill tried to soften their stance, to lower the asking price. The two clubs' relationship is said to be excellent so it's no surprise United try to convince them to forget that release clause.

It remains to be seen whether their stance is negotiable and those who'd love to see Nani here should hope Spurs does not match the amount put in his release clause.

i heared that we will get Nani in summer - but then immediately loan him back to sporting for one more season. Makes sense really,as it may mean we get him for less than his clause requires, and also in the short-term we do not really need him (giggs, park, ronaldo, rooney, richardson, fletcher) so another season to gain more experience of regular first team football may be the best solution.

If we sign him and i hope we do, we'll need him now, richardson and fletcher are not utd quality, park is willing but not really able for a sustained run in the first team if for example giggs or ronaldo are injured, rooney cannot play on the wing and i would rather nani spends the season being coached by our coaches in our world class facilities not somewhere where the coaches couldnt give a ***** because he'll be leaving at the end of the season and besides he could work with giggs on a one to one basis which in turn helps giggs with coaching skills and hopefully this could lead to giggs staying at utd as a coach if and when he retires from playing. As for Spurs matching his release clause if that happens it'll be a bad day for us its bad enough having to worry about chelsea outbidding us but spurs, we are one of the three, if not the best, supported clubs in the world we must be the biggest merchandisers in the game so where are the funds going to if not into the club, glazer needs a strong succesful utd challenging for honours every season to keep us the fans and Fergie happy so if its a case of spending every penny we get on his debt while spurs and co spend their tv income on our transfer targets it may not be as good a summer as we had hoped for

This may sound stupid but do you think Fergie could be planning to do an Henry with one of these two, ie turn him from a winger into a striker i hope not i want to see huntelaar in a utd shirt. Hopefully there are still a few cheques left in glazers cheque book, but fair play to him for backing fergies plans so far, he has now earned my respect.
