Fletch Eyes Title Defence

Manchester United have won the Premiership title but Darren Fletcher reckons it's not enough: the Reds should defend their crown next season.

Though he's not exactly a dominant figure, Fletcher expects United to dominate again after winning the league for the first time in four years.

We looked at the pre-season predictions for this year and a lot of people had us down to finish fourth,' he said.

'You don't take a lot of notice but you do look at these things, so it is nice to prove them wrong.

'We need to come back next season to defend our title and show it was not a one-off. We want to put a run of championships together.'

'I would have liked to be in the team more often but I don't think I have let anyone down when I have been called upon and my consistency levels have been quite high.'

That's true and you often heard me praising him this season. He was very calm about sitting on the bench but he had his reasons.

'You don't feel so bad being left out when the team is winning. It would be much more disappointing if we were losing and I still wasn't getting in,' explained Fletcher.

'There is talk of a few more additions this summer, which is part of being at a big club like this.

'I know Manchester United is a special place and I hope to be around for a few more years yet.'

Another dominant era, with Abramovich around? Highly unlikely, I must say - though I'd be delighted to relive the '90-s of course.

fletch has ha d a good season
rooneyisgod
so has Wes Brown on the quiet.
SweetLeftFoot
yeah, but i still reckon that on saturday against the scum we should play o'shea on the right instead os wes. also i reckon that fletch might actually start (no, really, hear me out) because our defence is sorted, but up front saha is injured so maybe playing rooney up front by himself would be good, allowing fletch to come in and be the terrier in the centre of midfiled he was against roma and milan (1st leg), because chelsea are a very narrow team and so we will need someone to intercept the through-balls etc.

Personally i think the team should be a 4-5-1/4-3-3 system as follows: (Van Der Sar, O'shea, Heinze/Evra *still undecided between those two, do we needpace or power?*, Ferdinand, Vidic, Ronaldo, Giggs, Scholes, Carrick, Fletcher, Rooney)
united4life
Smith up front with Rooney is a must, as is Van der Sar in goal with Ferdinand and Vidic in front of him, O'Shea right back, Evra left back with both overlapping with Giggs and Ronaldo down the flanks, we cant match Chelsea for strength but we have the advantage in terms of pace and if Chelsea play narrow we could really do some damage down the flanks, let Scholes and Carrick get stuck into Essien and Co in the middle of the park.
Kanchelskis
yeah but dont u think a fletcher (with the form against roma) would be ideal to stop their passing. i see your point about evra thi, pace is probably something we have more of.

Kanchelskis
Fletcher? No ******** way, Roma was a once off fluke, and besides why play 5 in the middle and one up front its just ridiculous straight from the off your letting them come onto you its ******** suicidal, if we attack with 2 up front they wont have time to string passes together and make space and they wont be overlapping down the flanks(lets face it ronaldo and giggs aint gonna track back) because they'll be worried about our 2 strikers
