Fergie Defends Vidic Risk

Sir Alex Ferguson does not regret selecting Vidic in his starting line-up yesterday despite our 3-0 defeat at the hands of Milan.

Fergie was always going to be criticised by that decision as we lost the game but Vidic, returning after breaking his collarbone on March 31, actually did quite well though he was let down by his team-mates.

'I have no complaints about Nemanja at all,' said Ferguson.

'There was an element of risk but I couldn't play both him and Rio and the lesser risk, without question, was Vidic.'

'I have to take the long term view and hopefully we now have Rio available for the rest of the season.'

As all our fully fit players were disappointing yesterday, maybe Rooney aside, it did not matter too much whether a half-fit lad is risked. We simply did not stand a chance.
