Athens Will Support Milan

Athens Will Support Milan

Liverpool are through to the final of the Champions League and should we complete the job tomorrow, the biggest ever derby would take place in Athens!

English football may not have won over many fans after that tie but it's not the main reason why Athens will support Milan tomorrow.

Quite simply, even the average Greek is surely aware what hatred a Liverpool v United derby awokes. They will fear for their town but without reason: I don't think any trouble would happen, though it might carry a greater risk than an ordinary league or cup game as it's the Champions League final.

But the most important thing now is that only one side have the chance to repeat United's 1999 Treble: United, again. Jose won't write history after all and the quadruple dream is now officially over.

They must be shattered now, they failed their greatest objective yet again. Visiting Emirates on a Sunday knowing that not winning there would almost certainly seal the fate of the league title is not an enviable task; in fact, I think if we win at City the previous day Chelsea will bottle it and we'll be crowned champions on the weekend.

Of course, there's the possibility that we'll blow the Champions League. But it's simple: we have less to lose than Chelsea. OK, some dare to dream about the Treble and Fergie will be in agony that he's been denied again in the quest for the big cup but we have a league title within our grasp so the disappointment would be less severe.

But if we snatch a draw in Milan, that will almost surely confirm United as champions. Even though the two competitions have nothing to do with each other...

there is talk that if the UEFA is an all spanish affair, which is due to played in glasgow, they might swap the two and bring the CL to Glasgow and the UEFA to Athens.
