United v Milan: A Nightmare Defense

Patrice Evra will probably start on the bench tonight so only three recognised defenders will be on the pitch against Milan.

Rio Ferdinand is out with a groin injury, Nemanja Vidic has just started training after breaking his collarbone in the game against Blackburn, Mikael Silvestre is out for the season, Gary Neville's ankle is still not ready... unbelievable. Patrice Evra has done some training on Monday but he won't start, thus it seems certain that Darren Fletcher will be handed the right-back's role again.

"We`ll have important players available for the game, so the one problem I have is perhaps having an adequate bench,' Fergie said. 'But we`re happy with the squad available tomorrow.'

Well, I'm not. We could hardly contain Middlesbrough, what will Milan do with this defensive line? We're asking for trouble with it... it's not Fergie's fault, of course.

"You do miss players like Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand and Louis Saha in big matches, but the spirit of the team is good."

Hope he's right. Team spirit definitely looked great this season and we'll need that more than ever. Fortunately, we have one central defender who is performing impressively recently and that is Wes Brown.

"We`re OK for central defenders," Sir Alex said. "Since taking over from Vidic, Wes has been very good. The one thing we know about Wes is that he is a natural defender. But the big-game occasion always helps him."
