Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to take a Carling Cup risk at Blackburn.

Ferguson: 'Blackburn will play their strongest side tomorrow but we won't. I will make changes from the FA Cup game at Burton because I have to look at the City match on Saturday morning.

'That is the whole point in having a squad. We have the numbers now to adapt to the fact we are playing away from home, then we will see what position we are in for the second leg.'

Ferguson wants Evra to fill the left-back void created by Gabriel Heinze's cruciate ligament injury and although the 24-year-old has hardly had an opportunity to speak with his new team-mates, the United boss has no fears about pitching him straight into the action.

Ferguson: 'It is a possibility. Patrice is a good age and is still developing as a player, which is always exciting. We have been monitoring him all season and it is fantastic that he is joining Manchester United.'
