'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Greatest Display Of Fergie's Reign

Sir Alex Ferguson described yesterday's demolition of Roma as the best ever European display during his tenure at Old Trafford.

United scored seven goals, all of incredible quality and Fergie looked like a delighted fan yet again.

'It was a fantastic performance, the scoring tells you that,' he said.

'You would have never expected anything like that; it's got to be the best European performance in my time at the club.

"The players had the confidence to believe in themselves after a couple of bad results in the last week. We felt that if we could get the first goal it would open the door for us and that's what happened.

'After that, the speed and penetration of our play was absolutely superb.'

So, Fergie says the elimination of Juventus is now down to second place in the rankings? If you disagree, watch the goals - especially the second, that was the most wonderful attack of this season. Smith finished it off - a fantastic moment for him and for our fans.

'He`s deserved it more than anyone,' the Boss commented. 'He's been through a year of real frustration in terms of getting back to his best. But he`s stayed patient. He`s trained like a beast and his attitude to playing football is wonderful.'
