Macari Attacks Squad Players

United's shadow team came back from Reading with a 3-2 success but Lou Macari believes that our squad players should show they're willing to fight for their place.

'I don't think any of those players come back to training in the afternoon and are determined to get in the team and stay in the team,' Macari said.

'I think they just accept they're going to be part of a squad. To be a part of Manchester United is fantastic, but you need to drive yourself. There are a bunch of players who seem quite content to just stroll along, week in, week out.'

Yes Lou, but Park does not have a realistic chance to be a regular starter as long as we have Giggs and Ronaldo in the squad. Same goes for Fletch and O'Shea, they are not in the same league with Carrick and Scholes.

I believe we have a decent bunch of fringe players who are ready to accept their role and do their job when called upon. Chelsea suffer from the lack of these kind of players and Robben's growing frustration is evident whereas Park is happy to accept his role. And that's not necessarily a problem.

We must know that our first-team players are far ahead the fringe players in terms of ability. I do not see a problem with the determination and commitment of O'Shea, Fletcher, Brown or Park, it's just that they cannot perform at the same level as Scholes, Carrick, Vidic or Ronaldo. That's all. But they're still dead useful, believe me.

no they cant perform as well as our first choice but they can fill in well when needed

They should still be looking to prove they can fill the boots of the first team players and perform just as well.
