'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gerrard And Sidwell In Midfield

United's assistant manager believes it could prove disastrous if the players could not concentrate fully on the FA Cup tie with Reading tonight.

Carlos Queiroz may not know the recipe for success - but he's certainly aware of one thing that leads to disaster: if the players keep on thinking about the next game during playing one.

United will play against Reading tonight then visit Liverpool on Saturday so Queiroz's advice is well worth to listen to.

'We trust the players,' said Queiroz. 'We know they can deliver.

'We don't have to make changes, but we need to do it because we have to ensure the team is as well prepared as possible for each individual game.

'As we approach this game, we have one thought in our minds - to make sure we travel back home knowing we are still in the FA Cup.'

He added: 'If we start play against Reading with Liverpool and Chelsea on our minds, it will create a big weight for us to carry.

'Suddenly, you might see 25 players in front of you. You might see a midfield where Steve Sidwell is playing with Steven Gerrard.

'The players cannot afford to let that happen. They must create a blank wall in their minds and remain focused on Reading and nothing else.'

God, 25 players, including Sidwell and Gerrard? Now I have some idea what a mental block is... Not a classic quote but not bad from Queiroz.
