Gary Axed As Punishment?

The Sun claims Gary Neville was dropped from United's squad for the Fulham game because he was punished for his rant in the Felix Bollaert stadium on last Tuesday.

Fergie warned his players not to get involved when the home side threatened to walk off because the referee did not rule out Giggs' somewhat cheeky goal. Neville was upset about this order and released some of his frustrations on the pitch, only to be recorded by a camera.

The skipper then travelled to London with the rest of squad to learn that he has been dropped. The Sun reckons it was a punishment for his behaviour in France.

That is possible, of course. I'm sure Gary wanted to play: he's the skipper, he's chasing his 7th championship medal so he was surely disappointed to find out he would not play.

I can even imagine it was a punishment. But please, do not think it's a solid fact! I'm not happy Sun chose this moment to come up with a big story, as the team should concentrate on facing Reading and Liverpool. It's always possible Gary knew in advance he would not play but travelled with the squad as a skipper should always do. Or that Fergie told the truth: the height of the opposition players was the reason behind Gary's omission. Or something else.

All in all, if it was indeed a punishment, our skipper would still survive. He overcame much more difficult things in his career and Fergie's methods are not exactly new for him...
