Crystal Palace 2 Manchester United 3

Manchester United leave it very late to take all three points, at Selhurst Park, against Crystal Palace.

After seeing, at the weekend, Liverpool claim second-place in the Premier League table, Manchester United made heavy weather of regaining that position in the league table against a Crystal Palace side that are fighting to retain their Premier League status.

In fact, to claim the three points on offer, Manchester United had to come from 2-0 down to snatch victory in stoppage time, through a fine strike from Nemanja Matic.

The home side, cheered on by a vociferous home support, had taken a 2-0 lead courtesy of strikes from Andros Townsend and Patrick van Aanholt, despite Roy Hodgson being without ten of his first-team squad.

But the Manchester United fight-back started when Chris Smalling reduced the arrears with a header and then Romelu Lukaku equalised with the Belgian scoring the ninety-ninth Premier League goal of his career.

However, with the game entering stoppage time, fate dealt a battling Crystal Palace side a cruel blow when Nemanja Matic strode forward to plant a dipping shot, from all of twenty-five yards, into the net.

The win sets Manchester United up nicely for what should be a barnstorming clash with Liverpool, at Old Trafford, on Saturday.
