Mourinho Explains Why Pogba Didn`t Start
When the team-sheet for the game against Huddersfield Town was read out, the name of Paul Pogba was conspicuous by its absence.
Manchester United`s record signing didn`t have the best of games in the defeat, at Wembley, against Tottenham Hotspur, but few people thought he`d be omitted for this game.
Instead, Jose Mourinho gave Pogba`s midfield slot to Scott McTominay, a decision that Jose in his after-match interview said wasn`t a big call, with the boss further adding,
'To sit on the bench one day is not the end of the world.
'The intention is not to punish anyone. To punish someone I also need someone to punish me because we are a team. I made a few changes thinking about the characteristics of this game.
'You have to open spaces by playing simple. That is why I played the kid. But Paul came on very well with a great attitude. No doubts for me, he is one of most talented midfield players in the world.'
Mourinho`s decision shows that nobody, in the Manchester United squad, should take their right to start a game for granted.
