Huddersfield Town 2 Manchester United 1

Huddersfield Town 2 Manchester United 1

At the John Smith's Stadium, Manchester United lost their unbeaten run to the season when they were beaten by Huddersfield Town.

United`s first defeat of the season, in the ninth Premier League game, sees them trail Manchester City by five points in the Premier League table.

At a wet and windy Yorkshire ground, Manchester United put on a dreadful first-half performance that saw them go in 2-0 down.

After conceding only twice in the previous eight games, United were to concede two goals in five poor first-half minutes.

The first of these came when Juan Mata gave the ball away in midfield to Aaron Mooy. The ball was fed to Tom Ince and David de Gea saved his shot, unfortunately the rebound fell to Mooy who gleefully netted sending the home crowd wild with delight.

Five minutes later matters were to get worse for United when Huddersfield doubled their lead, again it came as a result of sloppy play with Victor Lindelof, on for the injured Phil Jones, misjudged a goal-kick allowing Laurent Depoitre to race clear and round de Gea to score.

The half-time break saw Jose Mourinho make a further two changes replacing Mata and Martial with Rashford and Mkhitaryan.

But, cheered on by a vociferous home support, Huddersfield held firm until the seventy-eighth minute when Rashford headed home after some good work from Lukaku.

A frantic finish saw United pressing for the equaliser but Huddersfield held firm to earn their first win against Manchester United since 1952.
