Mourinho on the Defensive

Mourinho on the Defensive

A second clean-sheet in the space of a week should be heralded as good defensive work by Manchester United, but that doesn`t seem to be the way these days.

After the 0-0 draw with Liverpool, at Anfield on Saturday, Manchester United kept a clean-sheet in winning 1-0 in Lisbon last night, against Benfica.

But the recent results have brought criticism relating to Manchester United being a boring side, something that Jose Mourinho spoke about in his post-match interview with the media, in Lisbon, with Jose remarking,

'We were the team that was positive and we were always in control.

'I never felt that we could concede a goal, we were very solid defensively.

'Sometimes I feel that to be good defensively is a crime but it is not a crime. To be good defensively is one step to get results. We knew the Benfica pressure could not stay for 90 minutes.

'The amazing defensive work Liverpool did against us, Benfica could not do that for the whole game. Without any pressure, we knew the goal would arrive.'

Does anyone remember the old chant sung at Highbury:

"1-0 to the Arsenal, 1-0 to the Arsenal….."

I don`t recall George Graham having to put up with the stick Jose is getting now, do you?
