Southampton v Manchester United - Early Team News

A trip to the South Coast beckons for Manchester United this weekend with a Premier League fixture against Southampton.

Currently, Manchester United sit joint top of the table with our near-neighbours Manchester City, with both teams having identical records.

Neither of the Manchester clubs will want to give an inch when it comes to the title race and United will be looking for a convincing win at the St Marys Stadium.

Ahead of the clash we now have some early team news for you to digest.

Starting with our hosts Southampton:

This fixture could see the return to first-team duty for the Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk since January. Initially the centre-back was out of action through injury but, back in the summer, transfer speculation linked the player with a move away from the club, causing something of a stand-off. Van Dijk returned to action last weekend, from the substitutes` bench, Saturday could see him start.

Doubtful through injury though is the young defender Matt Targett who is struggling with an ankle injury.

Continuing with Manchester United:

Jose Mourinho is unable to call upon either Marcos Rojo or Paul Pogba, both are out injured.

Luke Shaw is available again after a long lay-off and playing forty-five minutes of the EFL Cup tie against Burton Albion.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial will both be hoping for starts after their performances in the aforementioned EFL Cup tie against Burton Albion.
