EFL Cup 3rd Round - United v Burton - Early Team News

Tonight, Manchester United start their defence of the EFL Cup they won last season.

The draw has paired Manchester United with Burton Albion, a side managed by Nigel Clough.

It has all the makings of a classic David and Goliath, but Jose Mourinho will be hoping his love affair with the League Cup continues, with Jose having won it on four occasions whilst managing in England.

Ahead of the tie, we`ve assembled some very early team news.

Starting with Manchester United:

As is the norm in the early stages of this competition, several of the regular starting eleven will be rested, we expect these to include - David de Gea, Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly and Nemanja Matic.

Likely to be given a start are Luke Shaw, Sergio Romero and Michael Carrick.

Definitely ruled out through injury are Paul Pogba, Marcos Rojo and Axel Tuanzebe.

Continuing with Burton Albion:

Nigel Clough is unable to call upon the services of Liam Boyce and John Brayford, the former is injured and the latter is suspended.

On a positive note, Clough is able to call upon his midfield duo of Hope Akpan and Matty Palmer, both of whom are available for selection.
