Houston Derby Shirts to Carry Bee Emblem

Houston Derby Shirts to Carry Bee Emblem

On 20th July, in Houston, Manchester United will play Manchester City.

It will be the first time the two clubs have played against each other outside of the UK and the first fixture between the two clubs since the awful terrorist attack, at the Manchester Arena killed 22 people.

For this game, both sides will wear kits that contain the bee emblem that has become the symbol of solidarity since that awful night back on 22nd May.

Following the fixture the shirts worn by the players will be auctioned off with all the proceeds going to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.

So far, the charity has raised in excess of an incredible £12 million to help the victims of the explosion.

Ed Woodward, talking about Manchester United wearing the bee emblem on the shirts, emphasised that the city of Manchester has shown "great strength and unity" since the attack whilst also showing the world "how special this city really is." before also adding,

'Having the worker bee on our shirts... shows the community spirit of our city and football club.'

As for our rivals from across the city, their chief executive Ferran Soriano had this to say,

'The worker bee symbolises everything that makes Manchester such a special city and our players will wear it on their shirts with immense pride, as a demonstration of solidarity with the Manchester community.'

It`s a nice touch by both clubs and we hope that the subsequent auction raises a considerable sum of money to help boost the fund for the victims.
