Xavi Claims United Contact

Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez claims United are after him but insisted that any kind of agreement is down to Barcelona where he is enjoying himself.

When the Xavi rumours first came up I dismissed them as absolute rubbish. He is a quality player and Barcelona through and through so I did not understand why would he want to come to Manchester and why whould the Catalans sell him.

Now the player himself claims United had made contact with him...

'It's true that the contact arrived with my agent Ivan Corretja to play for United but I have a contract with Barca and we have demanded that this (contact) was with the club,' Xavi told Barça TV.

'After that, I do not know what has happened between the clubs.'

'In England, there's a rumour about a possible exchange between Cristiano Ronaldo and myself but I do not know of anything formally that has ever been discussed.'

The last part of it is not worrying. Rumours in England? We definitely know these and we know what to believe. We're short in central midfield but swapping Ronaldo for Xavi would reduce our options on the wing so I don't believe United ever considered such a deal.

Any other agreement seems to be beyond reality. Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard is a big fan of Ronaldo and if he can't get him he won't let go one of his home-grown stars.

Xavi's statement certainly implies he would be interested in moving though which really does surprise me!

Yes, I agree. But it won't happen in the remaining eight hours.

hype hype hype.. fergie won't sell the winker, it would have to be an enourmous amount for your lot to sell and united aren't the selling type unless a stupid offer comes in.

xavi plus 25 million would need serious thinking but if we could get xavi without losing ronaldo that would be goood
