Ibrahimovic Heading for the Perfect Goodbye?

Ibrahimovic Heading for the Perfect Goodbye?

Against Chelsea, on Sunday, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was absent from the starting eleven.

Against Chelsea, Jose Mourinho opted to utilise Marcus Rashford in a central striking position.

The word from the club is that the 35-year-old was rested after admitting to feeling tired.

However, as Manchester United close in on a European Final, hopefully brushing aside Anderlecht to make the semi-finals of the Europa League, it is suspected that Ibrahimovic may start.

As it turns out, the final of the Europa League this season, is in Stockholm, at the Friends Arena, the very same Arena where Ibrahimovic is having a statue erected in his honour.

The suggestion was made, at the pre-match press conference, that winning the Europa League at the aforementioned stadium could be the perfect final curtain on his Manchester United career what with the striker not having committed to a further year at Old Trafford yet.

Responding to the suggestion, Mourinho replied,

'I don't think about whether it would be a perfect ending for him, I just think about Manchester United.

'Winning the Europa League would be the perfect finale for us. It would be a perfect end to a difficult season, trying to build a team to recover a certain mentality, by playing in a European final.'

The fact that winning the Europa League guarantees Champions League qualification may have a bearing on the matter of the Swedish striker committing to that extra year.
