Gary Backs Sparky For United Job

Gary Backs Sparky For United Job

Sparky Hughes, now manager of Blackburn Rovers, would be more than welcome at Old Trafford if he took over the club, according to Gary Neville.

Gary played together with the Welshman in the '90s and he claims it could be felt that Bruce and Robson are set to have a career in management but Hughes' success was a bit of a surprise for him.

'Playing with the likes of Bryan Robson and Steve Bruce, you always thought they'd go on to be managers,' said Neville. 'Some may have thought one of them would be our next manager.

'But I certainly didn't think Sparky would be a manager, yet out of the three, he's probably now the most outstanding candidate for it. He really seems to have taken to management.'

Considering the problems Rovers currently face (injuries to Ooijer and Savage, just to mention the most serious ones) it would not be surprising if Hughes were ready to jump into the United hot seat. But of course that won't be happening for a while.
