'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Eriksson Backs Hargreaves Price

The latest person to air his views in the Owen Hargreaves-saga is former England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson who believes the Canadian-born midfielder is worth £20M.

Of course, Sven's credit in England has reached an all-time low after the team's, to put it mildly, mediocre performance in Germany. And I believe his opinion won't rush Fergie to splash the cash on Hargreaves but let's hear what he's got to say.

'I always believed he would be a great player and I am very happy for him because now all the biggest clubs in Europe want him.

'Football can be crazy with transfer prices. But if anyone is worth £20m, then he is.

'He's that good and he will get better and better and better so his value could rise - he's still quite young. People criticised him but I always believed in him.'

At least the last sentence is absolutely true. He never lost faith in Hargreaves, that's obvious.

Sven is just sayin that now he has come good - Be honest with yourself - Sven ain't got a clue. Look at his striker selections for the World Cup, which left us toothless. Thats not to say Hargreaves aint a great, cos he is - But not cos Sven says so.

And he's still not worth 20m. Fifteen, or maybe seventeen but not twenty.
midlothian99
i think hes worth the carrick price
rooneyisgod
that was 14,6m which could go up to 18,6 subject to some specific clauses. Yes, I'd pay that much for him but obviously the decision does not rest with me.
midlothian99
Eriksson who?Oh is that the manager that took a twelve year old boy to play at the world cup but then didn't have any balls to put him?And left England with a damn giraffe up front? Let's be honest, his opinion is worthless.
k_chelski
so you saying your midfield is worth £38m ? now i have to disagree, but both english players so you have to admire Fergie for putting together the amount of english players.
PUREGOLD
Hargreaves works hard. Very hard and he's a very good defensive midfielder now. But that is one of few things Sven ever got right. £20m seems extortionate.
getintoem
seems players transfer fee's are beginning to go throught the roof again!
dazza71
hargreaves in there would give carrick more time to concentrate on his attacking play and passing (when scholes retires) so i think getting hargreaves would be good
rooneyisgod
I don't evenwant to think of Scholes retiring, Carrick ain't nowhere near Scholes' ability and Hargreaves at 20 million is way overpriced, he's a good player but he ain't world class and for that kind of money (basically our whole budget) i'd be wanting a world class player like Pirlo at Milan.
Kanchelskis
yeah i would prefer to take pirlo from milan instead
rooneyisgod
PUREGOLD, our midfield is worth 38m as Scholes' value is 50m for me! :-)))
midlothian99
But why we would need Pirlo? We have Scholes, we have Carrick, now we need a midfielder who is a great tackler.
midlothian99
hargreaves is the best option
rooneyisgod
pirlo for when scholes retires
rooneyisgod
Yes we need a great tackler but for the all the energy Hargreaves has he's not a great tackler, idont think he can read and break up play like a keano or an essien can
Kanchelskis
I think Hargreaves for you is a bargain at £20m. How much did you pay for Rio? For Rooney? For Carrick? I'd quite like to know how much the entire Arsenal squad cost which beat you yesterday. Does it come close to matching the price you paid for even two of those three?
michael105uk
i would like to know how much the sheff utd team costs the beat you ohhh i bet it dont come close to yours
