'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gary: It's Not A Race Yet

The United skipper refused to make predictions about United's season, stating it's just over the halfway now.

The Reds are six points clear of Chelsea, progressed to the 4th round of the FA Cup and face Lille in the Champions League 2nd round. We can already hear mutterings about a second treble but Gary Neville, sensibly, does not get carried away.

'Until the campaign gets to March I think we are still jostling for positions,' he told the Manchester Evening News.

'We are only just over halfway. It is not a race yet. People want to try and create a race and I can understand that.

'But as a player you just look to get to March and April. Then you have internationals returning and you could be in the mix in the Champions League and the FA Cup. That is when you are involved in a dogfight.

'At this moment in time it is still quite calm. We are not discussing championships and winning FA Cups or the Champions League. We just look to keep ourselves in a good position and keep our form.

'I am not going to say now that this Manchester United team are going to win the championship because I know full well that, with 16 games to go, in a week we could be 12 points clear or we could have our lead wiped away. That's the way a championship goes.'

I'm relieved not to hear our skipper vowing we would win everything that get into our path. Hopefully the lads' concentration and attitude will not be inferior to that of the first half of the season.

better to be six points ahead then siz points behind.

Obviously :-) Though being six points behind in January is not at all unusual - we managed to turn it around a few times

Gary Neville definately has his head screwed on. All it takes is 2 bad games and Chelsea are right on your heels again.
