'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fergie Still Feels Gazza Frustration

One of the greatest talents of English football history eventually turned down Manchester United and joined Spurs instead who bought his parents a house. Fergie still regrets this, his frustration only increased by the fact Gazza failed to fulfill his enormous potential.

The Scot told Newcastle he would happily exchange Gascoigne for any United player except Captain Marvel who was indispensable. He had a verbal agreement with the player who joined Spurs while our Boss was enjoying his holiday...

'The biggest regret would be missing out on Paul Gascoigne,' Fergie revealed.

'With all the Geordies here at the time and Newcastle being only two-and-a-half hours up the road, he knows it was a mistake going to London.

'I'll always remember during my first full season going up to St James' Park after we'd got these reports in advance on this dumpy local boy we needed to keep an eye on!

'He had real talent, the boy. He annihilated the three I put out against him that day - Bryan Robson, Remi Moses and Norman Whiteside. He beat us 2-1 single-handed.

'No question he and Wayne Rooney are the most talented players this country has produced in 20 years.'

Gascoigne seems to know he missed a great chance to become an Old Trafford legend, as he recently admitted he would have loved to have seen what it would have been playing for the Reds.

'Every player can look back and say `if' and my life has been all about if I hadn't done this or hadn't done that. But I have moved on from that.

'I am just glad Alex speaks to me now, because I did upset him, and he is not one of the guys you would like to upset.'

Well guys, just imagine a team with Gascoigne, Keane, Cantona, Giggs... no wonder Fergie is still reflecting sadly on the summer of 1988.

He would have been amazing for you boys, and if I look at it from a non-spurs supporter point of view would have defo been his best move... fergi is by far the best manager in the world... the thing that stands him above everyone else is his man management and the way he rears young footballers... Gazza would have matured under Fergy and it would have been his best move... but no, as a Spurs fan... I'm glad he chose us!

Nice to see you honesty :-) I believe Fergie's right in saying it was a mistake to take someone with his temperament and personality to London. We would have won the Champions League sooner with him in the team.

lmao did someone say Fergie is a great man manager... come on... he's certainly great but not in that area, and i dont think Gazza would have turned out much better wherever he went... COYS and oh nice 2 c u again the truth...

Some wishful thinking there. We actually wish Ferguson had joined Spurs in '84 not United later.
