Barcelona Rejected Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo scored 12 goals and claimed 6 assists so far in the league and his form played a major part in United's free-scoring form.

However, in the summer it had seemed Ronaldo may never be a success story at Old Trafford. The World Cup scandal, all the media hype around it and the Portuguese's claims he wanted out - no wonder his agent offered him to Barcelona.

'I offered the player to Barca, but they told me they were expecting to sign Thierry Henry and rejected a possible deal,' Jorge Mendes told El Mundo Deportivo.

'At this point it is practically impossible that the player can join Barca because Manchester would not sell him for all the money in the world.'

And I believe he wouldn't go now for all the money in the world. He has a point to prove and he made considerable progress toward his goal.

They could not have granted him regular playing time. Injuries for Messi and Eto'o could not be foreseen and the Messi-Eto'o-Ronaldinho front line is the default choice at Barca. Ronaldo would have spent a lot more time on the bench than he was used to.

I bet Barcelona are gutted yeah, they'll have to make do with Ronaldinho, Messi, Eto'o etc.

Securing Henry and Ronaldo would have meant Rijkaard getting the chance to experiment with a bold 2-3-5 line-up. Going back to the old times, eh?

I get the impression that Ronaldo will one day get a bone crunching career ending challenge on him that.. well... ends his career. I think Ronaldo cheats way too often.
