Rooney Made The Difference

Sir Alex Ferguson felt the introduction of Rooney was a turning point in the Carling Cup.

Ferguson: 'I didn't say much at half-time but I think the start of the second half was decisive. The presence of Wayne Rooney coming onto the pitch gave us all confidence and he got involved in the first goal.

'I was delighted for Ji-Sung. That goal has been coming for him. He hit the post on Saturday against Aston Villa and also had another couple of opportunities.

'We are all delighted for him because he has been working so hard and he deserved his goal.

'Scoring two goals is bound to help Saha. Strikers down the years have shown that they live on confidence and those two goals will certainly help him.

'He should have scored with a header in the first half, he should have at least hit the target with his capabilities in the air, but I am delighted for him overall.

'Our performance was good and the confidence has returned to the team. You could see that.'
