Edwin Extends Deal

Edwin van der Sar, United's veteran Dutch goalkeeper has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club for another year.

The former Ajax, Juventus and Fulham man has been a huge success ever since his move in 2005. His outstanding form earned nothing but praise for him and now he's been rewarded with another year at United.

'Edwin's fit, he's lean, he's hungry and he can play for another two years, easy,' said Sir Alex Ferguson.

'It all depends on what what he wants. Our approach with players in their 30s is to give them one-year contracts and we've given him another one-year deal.'

'Edwin's probably got a new lease of life coming to United,' Ferguson added.

'He did well at Fulham having previously been with Juventus and Ajax, but coming to us has given him an extra spur that a lot of goalkeepers get at that age.

'He is good in the dressing room, too.

'He's not a terribly demonstrative person - he's not like Peter Schmeichel for instance - but what he says has an authority about it because he has been there and that experience and personality is helping.'

I hope his form will not deteriorate in the following season, for he's certainly our best keeper since Schmeichel. Foster and Kuszczak both need to improve to challenge for the No. 1 shirt so we still need the Dutchman.

rooneyisgod, have u been watching the same games I have??? Foster's arial ability is awful! He's got an awful lot to learn before he should become United number 1. His potential is obvious though from his shot stopping.
getintoem
Foster's inexperienced, that's all. He's definitely got the ability.

Suprised me EVDS. I suppose it helps to play in a decent team.
