'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Vidic The Enthusiast

I think we all agree wholeheartedly with the assessment that Nemanja Vidic is a vital asset of our defence. But United skipper Gary Neville revealed an interesing side of the Serbian's successes.

Gary thinks Vidic's playing style suits all of those around him and he's infectious...

'Nemanja has been nothing short of fantastic over the last two or three months,' said the Bury-born man.

'He has been an outstanding performer, a good old-fashioned defender who loves to head the ball and loves to tackle.

'He is infectious in the way he makes everybody around him want to defend in the same manner.

'It is great to have defenders like that who never take a backward step.'

United have conceded only 9 goals in the current campaign, an astonishingly low amount given our defensive record over the years. So, in spite of our attacking brilliance I'd vote for Vidic as player of the first 17 games. Therefore, of course, I agree with Gary's assessment of him. His fantastic workrate and ability helped Rio to raise the standard of his game and that's another thing we should be grateful for.

Vidic has stood out to me as certainly being United's best defender so far this season. We'll see if he can keep that up.

Been impressed with vidic this year, he and ferdinand complement each other well! He's very uncomprimising, not afraid to get stuck in!!
