The Rumour Mill

The Rumour Mill

Freddy Adu seems to have got bored at Washington for he's signed for Real... Real Salt Lake City, that's it.

Interesting, to say the least after all the tabloids printed feverish speculation about when Adu would sign for United. He can't do it until next summer, we know that but this sudden transfer does not make much sense... well, I'm not too bothered to be honest.

United have already secured the signature of a veteran Scandinavian striker but now the Reds are reportedly interested in a different kind of player: a young Italian forward.

Andrea Russotto is plying his trade at Serie B outfit Treviso at the moment and the 18-year-olds goalscoring exploits excited Italy. Apart from United, Liverpool are interested in his services but Lazio are tipped to be favourites for his signature.

One of the most credible rumours is the one linking United with Bordeaux midfielder Rio Mavuba. I'm not in favour of buying him but several sources reported his imminent arrival after he claimed to be unhappy at Girondins. However, it's still believed that getting Owen Hargreaves is Sir Alex Ferguson's priority and the young Frenchman could be his alternative only.

Another midfielder on United's shopping list is Pompey's Manuel Fernandes if rumours are to be believed. Harry Redknapp faces a real fight to hold on to his player as Benfica is interested in him, too.

Who cares, if I was £300m in debt, I would be more worried about keeping the current players happy. It will all change in January when other teams catch you up during the Christmas period.

Only one team can catch us up during Christmas because the others are too far away. And I don't know why everyone are convinced we'll stumble during the Christmas period. We perform traditionally well at Christmas so I don't understand it.
