'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United Ratings

Sir Alex cast some shadow on the game as he claimed our opponents were a big team but if he really does believe that than our victory's worth even more.

Well, let's go.

Edwin van der Sar: Some impressive saves but he could not do anything to prevent the goal. 7

Gary Neville: He wasn't nearly as effective as against Benfica and committed a few minor mistakes. He was not required on the right flank as Ronaldo covered it. 6

Rio Ferdinand: Appeared to have caught Richards with a high-kick and he wasn't particularly assured. A reasonable display though. 6

Nemanja Vidic: He was bound to have a poorer game sooner or later but this performance was mediocre only by the standards he had set over the last months. A bit unreliable today but still a worthy contribution. 6

Gabriel Heinze: He claimed the assist to Saha's goal but sometimes he neglected his defensive duties - he compensated for it in attack. 7

Cristiano Ronaldo: Excellent. No unnecessary step-overs but a lot of fast, threatening runs, good shots an assist and a goal. Wonderful. 8

Michael Carrick: Quiet and reliable once again. No spectacular things, no major mistakes. Made the space for Scholes and Ginger Prince exploited it happily. 7

Paul Scholes: The little master was enjoying his football again, providing some great passes and pulling the strings throughout. It's not his fault he failed to record an assist at least. 7

Ryan Giggs: A quiet game for the Welshman after his fantastic contribution against Benfica. 6

Wayne Rooney: Scored a poacher's goal and he was posing a threat throughout the game. Shame he couldn't double his tally. 7

Louis Saha: The French striker scored a quite uncharateristic goal but reacted dreadfully to an invitation of an open goal after Isaksson had parried Rooney's shot. 7

Subs:

John O'Shea: His introduction did not help to reinforce our defending and he was nowhere to be seen in attack. 5
