'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fergie Warns Against Profligacy

The United gaffer was happy with the wictory at Riverside but insists the team can't miss as many chances as they did on Saturday.

The Reds are currently six points clear at the top of the table, with Chelsea having a game in hand, after their 2-1 victory at Middlesbrough. It was a good performance but the lads have missed far too many chances and had to withstand some late pressure - much to the displeasure of Fergie.

'We should have had five or six,' he told MUTV. 'That's happened quite a few times away from home and, although our form has been fantastic, we still can't flirt with the missing of chances all the time.

'Sometimes you're going to be left to suffer. We got a warning today when they equalised with 20 minutes to go. They showed their resolve to get back at it, but we should have had the game cut and dried, sewn up long ago.'

Of course, it was not all criticism after United have picked up 41 points from a possible 48 so far in the season.

'I'm delighted,' he said. 'It's not an easy place to come to as we've experienced some times in the past. The crowd put the referee under pressure all the time and it was a good result for us.

'We've been to difficult places like Bolton, Blackburn, Reading and Middlesbrough today isn't an easy place to come. I think we can look upon it as a significant result.'
